Job Description

The primary role of Vitamin Angels India’s (VAI) Advisor/Vice President for Nutrition is to maintain legacy programs previously operated by Vitamin Angels (U.S.); and to expand existing and new evidence-based nutrition programs throughout India. He/She would be required to maintain and expand the network of program partners (e.g., governmental units and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) or community-based organizations (CBOs)) that deliver a range of nutrition interventions to hard-to-reach populations in India consistent with best practices; and develop and support the introduction of new nutrition-specific, evidence-based nutrition interventions to improve nutritional status of women and children in collaboration with state/national governmental partners and NGO/CBO partners that target hard-to-reach women and children throughout India.


Anticipate, facilitate, and manage growth in the division's personnel/structures consistent with organizational revenues and an expanding network of technically sound country program operations • Provide steady, top-level guidance and experience to all Program Division efforts in a collegial/collaborative environment while understanding risk management for non-profits that operate in the health care arena. • Manage the Program team, while serving as its technical (i.e., public health) advisor • Identify all personnel resources needed to fulfill VAI's programming aspirations in India • Coach and mentor a team of country program staff and advisors to support an evolving set of nutrition programs operated by qualified partners

Collaborate with the Marketing and Development teams, and synchronize actions of the Program Division with other VAI divisions. 

Represent VAI as the most senior technical expert • Raise awareness to and advocate for VAI's cause • Cultivate and manage technical relationships with technical counterpart agencies • Advocate for nutrition-specific interventions (as appropriate) among key program stakeholders, including NGOs, international NGOs, and government units (both national and state)

Create and operationalize a nutrition program vision for India that: ? Draws upon Vitamin Angels (U.S.) program experience ? Absorbs legacy program previously operated by Vitamin Angels (U.S.) ? Builds upon core nutrition interventions established in legacy programs of Vitamin Angels (U.S.) by introducing new, evidence-based nutrition-specific interventions assessed by Vitamin Angels (U.S.) into the Indian context as feasible. (Such interventions should be to improve nutritional status of women and children and be done in collaboration with state/national governmental partners and NGO partners that target women and children throughout India. Provide oversight to the identification, vetting, qualifying, and maintenance of partnerships with potential and actual field partners to VAI - focusing on partners: ? Willing and able to integrate and transform resources provided by VAI into new services within India as a whole or in new or expanded services for "hard-to-reach" beneficiaries. Able to absorb all local costs of connecting these services to the target populations of its field partners. ? Committed to the development, to the extent feasible, of locally sustainable supply and distribution systems that complement nutrition services delivered by national health care services, • Ensure coordination between VAI programs and national government policy and health services and support efforts of multi-lateral organizations, • Oversee and provide technical advisory services to large health care systems or to national/state governments that introduce new nutrition specific interventions, • Conceptualize and oversee development and execution of implementation research that can inform effective and efficient introduction/scaling of nutrition specific interventions, • Design and maintain a program of technical assistance and follow-up support to VAI's partners that deliver nutrition services, • Facilitate on-going maintenance and improvement of program quality by developing and overseeing a robust program monitoring and evaluation capacity, including implementation research, and • Provide logistical support to ensure implementation and tracking of VA's services to grantees.

Support the Marketing and Development teams as needed to further VAI's mission. • Facilitate requests for technical source materials made by the Marketing and Development teams (usually on behalf of donors for use in donor marketing communications).Ensure proper vetting of all VAI marketing communications to ensure each communication is technically accurate, and conformant with VAI's technical guidelines. • Assess resource needs on an on-going basis, and when appropriate opportunities exist, submit applications for grants to foundations, corporate social responsibility programs, or other agencies to support implementation research.

Eligibility Criteria

Doctoral degree (e.g., medical degree, doctor of public health, or PhD in a related science discipline from an accredited university) with significant experience in managing public health programs. • Minimum 15 years of work experience in program management, out of which minimum 5 years in a management position, preferably overseeing a department or organization through periods of significant growth and expansion • The incumbent should have demonstrated experience in navigating complex political and policy issues. • Responsible for the financial management and compliances related to the Indian entity. • Prior experience of establishing long and meaningful relationships with new donors along with nurturing the existing ones. • Experience in logistics management.Minimum 5 years' experience of working with an international NGO.
