Job Description

LOCATION: Mumbai with the flexibility to travel outstation and overseas as required.

ACTIVITY AND SCOPE OF WORK:

  • Active development and maintenance of relationships both in Asia and the US, with a particular focus on India & South Asia aligned to the development needs of the organization.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and build corporate and community partnerships and alliances.
  • Conceptualize and execute development strategies, special events, and corporate programmes. These include: membership drives – both corporate and individual, the Annual Arts Game Changers Awards, signature board & member events, sourcing programming grants and other activities aimed at engaging with current & potential donors, members and sponsors. 
  • Develop and manage calendar for fundraising activities.
  • In cooperation with the CEO, develop and execute development strategy and development plans.
  • Draft membership and development reports, including: New York annual membership report, centre membership reports, board development reports, and special event budgets.
  • Work with the CEO, programmes team and accounting personnel to coordinate allocations of funding to programmes and development areas in annual budgeting processes.

New Members:

  • Work on growing all categories of membership for Asia Society India Centre with particular focus on corporate memberships.
  • Design differentiated membership categories and offerings, for example a patrons circle.
  • Work with the CEO on expanding the donor base to major cities in India and South Asian countries particularly Bangaldesh, Sri Lanka & Nepal.

Existing Members:

  • Maintain regular communication with existing members and work on renewal of memberships.
  • Develop and implement global programmes for existing members in partnership with the programmes team.
  • Work with the administration team to ensure donor and membership details are up to date on the organisation’s database.
  • Identify relevant corporate members for global private and VIP engagements.
  • Build strong relationships with diplomatic missions in the region.

Programme Funding:

  • Focus on expanding network of opinion leaders in academia, government, business & the media.
  • Work with the CEO and the programmes team, to identify funding sources, programme sponsors, foundations and potential donors.
  • Identification and development of corporate and other private sponsors for existing programme series as well as individual programmes.
  • In collaboration with the CEO and the programmes team, identify potential diplomatic research grants; draft funding proposals, letters, and project reports.
  • Write and edit project descriptions for marketing and/or fundraising purposes.

Collaboration with Programmes Team and the Global Business Development Team

  • Continuous collaboration and integration with the Centre's programme team to ensure programmes are responsive to member interests, with a particular focus on the development of private programming for special membership categories in order to encourage the growth and enhancement of the membership.
  • Draft content and oversee the creation and design of all solicitation collateral materials with specific reference to individual and corporate giving, interacting with co-sponsors, securing event venues, publicizing, brand development, and implementing marketing strategies.
  • Proactive liaison with colleagues in Asia Society New York and at other global centres.

Database Management:

  • Supervise the development, maintenance and ongoing design of Access to monitor and track all contributions and generate reports and analysis as required.

Other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Advanced degree desirable; A graduate degree is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, event planning, public relations, membership, marketing and development with at least 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior work experience of working with major philanthropic organisations and corporate foundations in India is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Indian business, civil society and the political community.
  • Excellent relationship building and networking abilities.
  • Strong administrative and execution ability.
  • Excellent oral, writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with Asia particularly South Asian arts, culture, business, and policy.
  • Proficient in using MS Office applications and Zoom/other virtual platforms.
