ABOUT THE ROLE

 

Title: Child Safeguarding Program Lead

Location: Kolkata

Reports to: Agency Director

Type of engagement: Fulltime

Other key working relationships: All Agency staff, volunteers, interns and stakeholders like vendors and consultants

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Child Safeguarding Systems and Process

  • Ensure child safeguarding activities in the Agency are implemented and monitored as a vital cross-cutting theme throughout.
  • Review and update agency’s child safeguarding policy and protocols in accordance with the CI global child safeguarding policy and protocols, local child protection laws, best practices and standards.
  • Collaborate with and provide advice to key teams and/or departments within the agency to promote fulfillment of the safeguarding risk analysis, including risk identification and management strategies of the agency’s processes, procedures and activities and appropriate mitigating actions are developed.
  • Provide input on planning, monitoring and evaluation of all child safeguarding-related programs and activities under the Child Safeguarding Referral Services.
  • Prioritize child safeguarding issues, undertake situation analyses and needs assessments, and design intervention and response programs and initiatives.
  • Analyze problems/challenges encountered in the performance of agreed tasks and subsequently identify ways to lessen impacts of such on the achievement of set goals.
  • Participate and provide inputs during Child Safeguarding team meetings (agency and/or global level) on gaps, concerns and improvement initiatives.

Case Management

  • Participate in, or conduct reviews of, complex or sensitive cases related to child safeguarding.
  • Develop appropriate intervention/treatment plans for each child safeguarding-related case. (e.g., conduct of individual/group counseling sessions, referral to other organizations and institutions) for each child safeguarding-related case.
  • Determine referral services, needs to effectively address all child safeguarding-related cases.
  • Conduct individual/group counseling sessions, home visits after coordination with field staff for follow-up of child safeguarding-related cases forwarded to the Agency
  • Communicate with other staff and/or referral partners and attends case conferences called for by referral partners and/or other agencies.
  • Facilitates the conduct of case conferences to enable concerned field staff not only to provide necessary inputs in the management of cases but also to actively participate in addressing all related issues and concerns pertaining to the cases at hand, during and after case termination.
  • Report cases to CI Home Office in adherence to global child safeguarding policies and protocols.

Finance and Administration Related Functions:

  • Takes an active role during Agency’s annual planning and evaluation of program goals, plans and activities for the development of Mid-Year and Year End Reports.
  • Coordinate with Accounting Department on submission of budget requests and subsequent budget liquidations on time, as applicable.
  • Encode program plan, modifications, revisions and budget in the Field Information System (FIS).
  • Track and analyze the monthly budget execution of child safeguarding activities. Respond to budget queries when they emerge.

Stakeholder Engagement, Partnership Development and Management

  • Identify and recommend potential partnerships for program implementation and build such relationships and with other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain informal and formal partnerships with government and non-government organizations to enhance CI child safeguarding practices
  • Conduct referral of cases to relevant institutions/organizations for medical, legal, psycho-social, temporary shelter and/or any related assistance (as the need arises).
  • Represent CI, participate and collaborate with other child welfare agencies that promotes Children’s Rights and Protection.

Capacity Building and Reporting

  • Provide feedback, coaching and agreement with team members in the core group after activity implementation observation as a form of evaluation.
  • Plan for and duly implement annual training sessions on Child Safeguarding Policy and best practices for all Agency staff and volunteers. Conduct orientation/training for new staff and partners on Child Safeguarding Policy and Protocol and Code of Conduct of the Agency.
  • Prepare and ensure timely submission of CI Home Office the required reports.
  • Identify gaps and training needs and develop self-development plans that is required of the role.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KEY SKILLS:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree holder in the field of Social Sciences, preferably a Social Worker.
  • Exposure to relevant trainings on facilitating, counseling, child protection/safeguarding systems and child and youth development.
  • At least 5 years of child protection experience, ideally in an organization that specializes on child and youth development.
  • Knowledge of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, child safeguarding/prot
