Job Description

The candidate would be expected to:

  • Coordinate the overall delivery of the program in Bhimavaram and ensure that the project delivers on time.
  • Plan and manage the above project as per study protocol in consultation with other investigators who are based in other parts of India. The PI is based out of Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana.
  • Be specifically involved in project management for the site specific activities
  • Be responsible for securing all regulatory and ethical approvals from different bodies in consultation with other team members
  • Develop networks with all stakeholders for not only conducting the research but also build relationships for future collaborations, with a specific focus on adolescents and relevant stakeholders
  • Manage research staff reporting to the person directly or indirectly
  • Manage budgets as per institutional regulations
  • Contribute to the science of the study by writing papers and presenting at meetings and conferences
  • Interact with collaborators and other researchers from the teams in Punjab and UP as per need.
  • Develop individual research interests by identifying new opportunities to conduct research and generate revenue for the institute 
  • Travel extensively both in the local area around Bhimavaram but also as per need to other parts of the country for project related work or meetings. 

As a Team Member:

  • Contribute actively and in a constructive manner to the smooth conduct of the STOP EPILEPSY Project
  • Be responsible for the management of all research staff reporting to the position in a direct or indirect manner, and this would involve project supervisors and field staff
  • Be responsible in communicating the need and purpose of the research to all team members in a coherent manner
  • Be part of the larger team of mental health researchers and contribute intellectually to the development of mental health research in the institute
  • Be part of the institute’s research objectives and contribute to other projects wherever possible
  • Participate in team meetings and activities relating to the project and own work area
  • Participate in teaching and academic meetings of the institute as indicated by the management and also as per need
  • Participate in special projects to improve processes, tools, systems and organisation;
  • Take responsibility for personal learning and development and for setting achievable and meaningful work objectives and managing personal targets, meeting obligations of the Institute’s Performance Management and Development Policy
  • Demonstrate commitment to GI’s values, including performing to an exceptionally high ethical standard and focus on integrity, collaboration and teamwork in all efforts

As a Team Manager:

  • Ensure direct reports understand and comply with GI’s Policies and procedures, standard operating practices, ethical practice (with respect to research) and the legislative environment
  • Be responsible for managing performance of direct reports, including the completion of plans and agreeing on work and personal objectives and reviewing such plans and objectives, in accordance with GI’s Performance Management and Development Policy
  • Act as a role model and ensure the team’s commitment to GI’s values, ensuring direct reports perform to a high ethical standard and focus on integrity, collaboration and teamwork in all efforts

Work, Health and Safety

  • Comply with GI’s Work Health and Safety Policy and related procedures, and similar policies which apply when visiting the premises of affiliates and collaborating sites.
  • Promote and contribute to a safe, secure environment for staff and visitors


Eligibility Criteria

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualifications: Masters plus three years experience or a fresh MD /PhD graduate
  • Doctoral qualification in psychiatry/psychology or a mental health/neurology related field is preferable
  • Experience in managing projects, leading teams, specific work tasks would be desirable;
  • Minimum of two publications is essential
  • Demonstrated capability to produce outcomes and achieve objectives within agreed time periods
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and proven strategic thinking
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, with ability to influence others to achieve common goals;
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills and capability of motivating and energising a team to perform at a high level
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English and the ability to work well autonomously
  • Excellent team-work/leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and to be adaptable to changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
  • Strong focus on producing the highest quality of work and on ensuring optimum accuracy of outputs
  • Well organised and efficient, with the capacity to work under pressure
