Doers is a non-governmental humanitarian organization working towards resilience and sustainability in the Himalayan region of India. We strive to develop community resilience through our programs and thematic activities on disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and humanitarian response. Our office is located in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh (India). Doers is a member of the 'Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR)' and the 'Mountain Partnership' alliance by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Our vision and mission are to build adaptive and sustainable communities in the Indian Himalayan region that are equipped to withstand the effects of climate variability. Our organization endeavors to enhance community preparedness and adaptability towards unforeseen events such as disasters and climate change by implementing effective resilience-building practices, development of cross-functional and environmentally-sound approaches to enhance risk mitigation. We hold expertise in Thematic Training and Capacity Building; Preparation of Disaster Management Plans; Survey Research and Documentation; Hazard, Vulnerability & Capacity Assessment; Integrated Planning for DRR and CCA; Development of thematic IEC Materials; Application of ICTs for Disaster Risk Management. Doers render service as Resource Persons or Visiting Faculty at prominent institutions located in different states of India. Our team has years of experience of facilitating very engaging thematic training sessions to the representatives of Government departments as well as civil society organizations.


We are actively looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic professional for the position of Program Associate.


Job Summary: The Program Associate will be responsible for providing support to the team in planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs and projects related to the cross-cutting issues in the domain of resilience, sustainability and empowerment. The role requires a fundamental understanding of interrelated aspects of sustainable development and an interest in interdisciplinary fields to effectively coordinate with a range of partners and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

• To assist in project planning, research, documentation and analysis on issues related to sustainable development, climate change, disaster risk management, public health and humanitarian response.

• Contribute to the preparation of project proposals and work schedules for Doers intervention over cross-cutting issues.

• To support the successful implementation of programs, coordinate with project partners and stakeholders.

• Organize and take part in meetings, training/workshops, and other events as considered important by the organization.

• Assist in program evaluations while keeping track of and reporting on project results.

• Create and maintain connections with government/ non-government stakeholders, and other pertinent organizations.

• Make a contribution to the creation and distribution of project-related communication materials.

• Support the organizational development proactively and carry out any other additional tasks as directed by your supervisor.


Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Rural Development, or any relevant stream.

• At least 3 years of relevant work experience.

• Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Excellent written and spoken English with above average proficiency in Hindi.

After the catastrophic Nepal Earthquake of April 2015, this group of committed persons resolved to form an organization with an ultimate goal to create a culture of preparedness and to build community disaster resilience in the region. ? Since then, the Team Doers continued to learn more and do better in the area of disaster risk management while gradually integrating the issues pertaining to climate change adaptation, public health and humanitarian response. We believe in the systems thinking approach and strive not only to build the capacities, but also to address the underlying vulnerabilities to reduce the risk.
