Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Goat Value Chain Manager to build the end-to-end development and management of our goat value chain. As the Goat Value Chain Manager, you will be responsible for creating and managing a comprehensive value chain for goat farming, from Identification to creating end products. You will be expected to identify and develop additional sub-products and revenue streams within the Goat Value Chain. The Goat Value Chain Manager will report to Co-Founders of LetsEndorse. The position holder shall have deep experience and knowledge of various aspects of livestock program commercialization, private sector engagement; Public, private, and producers partnership (PPPP), goat breeding and value chain development, market linkages, agricultural financing, and market systems development The role holder will deliver technical lead to the goat value chain. This position will serve as LetsEndorse brand ambassador for the Goat value chain and represent LetsEndorse in strategic forums to ensure LetsEndorse carries strong brand recognition related to the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Value Chain Development: Build, establish and manage the fully functional Goat Value Chain, including the procurement, breeding, processing, distribution, feeding, healthcare, and marketing segments including onboarding of goat business stakeholders and foster strong partnerships with various entities.
  • Operations Management: Oversee and optimize each stage of the value chain, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and adherence to quality standards. Establish efficient distribution channels and logistics for timely product delivery, while fostering partnerships with local and regional stakeholders to expand the value chain's reach. Facilitate access to goat value chain technologies, encourage out-grower schemes with private complexes, and explore additional output market opportunities for smallholder goat breeders.
  • Product Diversification: Identify and explore opportunities for the development of sub-products such as goat milk, cheese, and other value-added products within the Goat Value Chain. Coordinate sub-product production, maintain quality standards, ensure compliance, and implement effective marketing strategies to enhance profitability and sustainability of the poultry value chain.
  • Resource Management: Efficiently allocate and manage resources, including personnel, equipment, and budget, to ensure the smooth operation of the value chain. Manage project works, budgets, and reporting, ensuring cost control, alignment with project plans, and timely submissions to Co-founders for project progression tracking.
  • Market Analysis: Stay up-to-date with market trends, consumer preferences, and competition to make informed decisions about product diversification and market positioning. Conduct in-depth market research and system analysis within the goat industry to identify growth prospects, bottlenecks, and sub-product opportunities. Utilize findings to shape business strategies and enhance LetsEndorse's visibility among diverse stakeholders. Foster innovation, monitor project performance, and share insights with co-founders and stakeholders for impactful knowledge dissemination.
  • Supplier and Partner Relationships: Develop and nurture robust relationships with Goat suppliers, processors, and value chain stakeholders. Lead negotiations and contract management to ensure the procurement of top-quality goat products. Collaborate with the MoA and other partners for capacity-building initiatives, maintain a diverse program portfolio with quality training, and actively identify market linkage opportunities to encourage stakeholder collaboration and innovation.
  • Team Leadership:  Recruit, train, and manage a dedicated team of professionals to support various functions within the Goat Value Chain ensuring a high level of competence and performance.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and Requirements :

  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on Goat Value Chain, including hands-on experience in goat farming, breeding, and related activities..
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Business, or related fields (Master's degree is a plus).
  • Proven value chain development expertise, from inception to full-scale operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on seizing value chain opportunities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management abilities.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Willingness to travel extensively and adapt to varying work conditions.
  • Knowledge of goat industry regulations and sustainability practices.
  • Clear understanding of goat value chain and market system development.
  • Experience in delivering extension services to small-scale farmers.
  • Proficiency in designing capacity-building strategies for Producer Organizations.
  • Budget preparation and monitoring expertise.
  • Knowledge of the latest goat productivity improvements and market system development.
  • Proficient in MS Office, email, and internet use.
  • Skill in developing public-private partnerships.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English and local languages.
