Job Description

To coordinate network and advocacy work at local, regional and national levels concerning the

issues of persons with disabilities and their rights.

Formation and Strengthening of DPOs (Disabled People Organizations) at local, regional and

national levels.

Networking with existing DPOs, government, disability department, other concerned

departments and stakeholders to create a platform for the empowerment and inclusion of

persons with disabilities at the regional and national levels.

To develop advocacy strategies for the organization and facilitate and guide the organization

and its network organizations and other units of the organisation in fulfilment of the

objectives.

To ensure timely development of position papers, policy briefings, presentations and other

advocacy materials to influence policies for positive outcomes.

To effectively engage with different stakeholders including national, regional and international

agencies, networks and governments (State, Union and International agencies) to ensure and

promote the rights of persons with disabilities by identifying the gaps in the existing legal

instruments as well as new policies and legislations.

To effectively and skilfully use different advocacy strategies, methods, and tools for

advocating and promoting the rights of right holders/stakeholders.

To organize seminars, workshops, events and other programs at different levels to sensitize

stakeholders and duty bearers to promote constitutional and legal rights of women, children,

persons with disabilities and other marginalized people.

General Responsibilities:

Whenever possible undertake exciting and interesting initiatives to complement the impact

of the project and programme.

Ensure that the work is carried out at all times with the utmost privacy and confidentiality

under the terms and conditions of employment.

Represent Jan Vikas Samiti at meetings with partner organizations and other agencies.

Commit to promoting equality in terms of race, gender, culture, sexual orientation, and

disability, so that Jan Vikas Samiti is recognized as an open and welcoming resource that

challenges discrimination and works to address the needs of disadvantaged people in North

and North East India.

Undertake any other tasks that are requested for the ongoing projects and programs of Jan

Vikas Samiti.

Person specification:

Master’s degree in Human Rights, Journalism, Law or related topics

At least five years of experience in implementing and managing advocacy activities related

to disability or programs.

Good computer skills in Microsoft Office, internet etc.

Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi languages.

Good drafting and reporting skills in English and Hindi languages.

Ready to travel domestically as and when required.

Knowledge of various national and international policies and legislations concerning

persons with disabilities and other marginalized communities.

Job Offer:

Full-time: 8 hours a day

Salary scale: 40,000/- per month.

Contract duration: 1-year contract with the intention of extension.

Location: Head Office in Murdaha P.O., Varanasi, Dist., U.P.
