The Project:

Currently SEEDS Trust is beginning an agroforestry project in the Ayyalur landscape of Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, with the support of the Livelihoods Carbon Fund SICAV-RAIF-LCF3, Luxembourg. The main objective of the project will be to rehabilitate the degraded landscape and to achieve better livelihoods for the communities that are largely dependent on the surrounding forests.

The project will plant multi-purpose and fruit tree saplings in around 8,000 ha in private farmlands of about 8,000 families in the fringe villages of the proposed Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary. The income generation from the trees and other allied income generation activities promoted by the project are expected to reduce the pressure on the Ayyalur forest and improve the resilience of the communities, both of which will directly impact contribute to the key Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN at the larger level.

In order to manage the project implementation, SEEDS Trust seeks to recruit services of three (03) Field Coordinators on an annual contract basis, renewable based on annual performance evaluations. This is a full-time position, requiring local travel and will be based at Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.


Main functions

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Field Coordinators will be responsible for the overall delivery of the planned outreach activities (not limited to but including training and supporting farmers in tree planting, training and supporting farmers and women in value addition of non-timber forest products and honey, monitoring tree survival, data collection and validation at farmer level, etc. They will be responsible for the last-mile delivery of the planned outreach activities within their target villages and allocated farm families.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Project manager, he/she will be responsible for implementation of the various project activities in their respective cluster like: farmer recruitment, farmer capacity building and handholding support activities, nursery raising of tree saplings, site preparation for tree planting, soil and water conservation for rainwater harvesting, farm-based income generation activities, etc, within their allocated villages and farmer groups. In addition to these, training the Village Coordinators, using the apps for data collection to record the various activities described above and project monitoring of tree survival, annual impact surveys, tree audits and measurements, etc.


Expected skills, competence.


Graduate degree in social or natural science disciplines.

Prior experience (of 2 years) working with farmers and farmer organizations is essential.

Knowledge of non-timber forest products, forest rights etc will be added advantages.

Basic working knowledge in English and Tamil is important.

Motivated to work under minimum supervision.

Willing and able to travel and spend 60% of time in the field.


Contract Type: Annual (with a probationary period of three months), with a possibility of extension based on annual performance assessments. Salary corresponds to industry standards
