Vacancy for the post of Social work fellow at Prayas, a field action project of the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work, TISS, Mumbai


Prayas is a field action project of the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work, initiated in 1990. It is a response to the needs of disadvantaged groups being processed by the Criminal Justice System. It aims at socio-legal and economic rehabilitation of persons who are at risk of being criminalized, exploited for commercial sex, and those in destitute states.


This position involves social work intervention with women in police lock-ups and their children left outside and documentation of the interventions being undertaken as part of the project.


Post: Social Work Fellow (Male) – 2 positions


Nature of Appointment: Contract basis


Period of Contract: 12 months


Location: Mumbai


Requirements:


• Male candidates only (as the post is for working in a male prison where female staff are not allowed as per prison rules)

• Masters in Social Work (MSW)

• Good ability in speaking and written English (preferably Marathi and Hindi too)

• Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently

• Familiarity with the use of MS-Office, emails and the internet.

• Willingness to travel in Mumbai and Thane District

• Preference for persons with prior experience of social work practice in the field of criminal justice.


Salary: Rs 30,000 /-


The terms listed above may be relaxed in exceptional circumstances. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test and interview.

• The Institute reserves the right to relax qualification and working conditions of the candidate based on the work experience and to relax age in the case of persons already holding comparable positions in a University/Research Institution of repute.
