Job Description

The Institute of Himalayan Environmental Research and Education (INHERE) has been working since 1982 as a non-profit organization for all round development of the mountain people of the Himalayas. It works as a community based grassroot implementing agency and takes research and support as required. INHERE is currently working on conservation and utilisation of locally available bio-resources through cultivation and value addition to create additional livelihood support opportunities for rural communities of the Kumaon and Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India.


Job Responsibility:

- Should be able to identify and implement new concepts, practices and farming techniques to support and strengthen value chains in mountain agriculture.

- Collaborate with agricultural universities, agri-tech companies and research institutions for knowledge support and actively participate in knowledge exchange events.

- Collaborate with state and district line departments for convergence of government schemes and for resource mobilisation.

- Support in procurement of quality seeds/planting material, improved machinery/ farm implements for mountain farmers.

- Regular monitoring, training and orientation of mountain farmers on improved practices in cultivation, harvesting and post harvesting of mountain crops in the villages.

- Work closely with the programs team, local stakeholders and farmer groups to facilitate their involvement in cultivation efforts, provide training and support, and promote ownership of the project among rural populations.

- Create and maintain data and proper documentation of the work given.


Eligibility:

- Master's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, or related field

- 3–5-year experience in Agri-based livelihood development project

- Person should be familiar with the Himalayan geography, its culture and issues

- Prior experience in agriculture, agri-business, entrepreneurship development and marketing.


Skills:

- Strong networking skills and leadership ability

- Good communication skills

- Proficient in MS-word, excel and power point etc.

- Ability and willingness to travel to interior areas as per work requirement

- Capacity to work with minimal supervision
