Job Description

We run two KMC programs in our hospitals:

KMC in Post Natal Care (PNC) Ward Program for Stable Low Birth Weight and Preterm Newborns

Early Initiation of KMC in Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) Program for Unstable Low Birth Weight and Preterm Newborns


Main model components are:

Repurpose some space in the health facilities and create dedicated space for Kangaroo Care

Recruit health workers to act as dedicated Kangaroo Care counsellors for mothers

Provide training to clinicians and nurses on supporting and managing kangaroo care and other components of the program

Follow up with mothers after discharge to ensure continued behavioural change and monitor the newborn for any danger signs

Sahaj Sansthan is a not-for-profit registered in Phalodi, Rajasthan. We have been implementing programs in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, livelihood and education for over 22 years. Position Overview


We are seeking a compassionate nurse to join our team in Pali/Baran, India. You'll provide KMC education & support to mothers, ensuring infection control and monitoring baby's health. You'll also use data collection tools and participate in program development.


Key Responsibilities


- Participating and Ensuring Infection Control Protocols for self and for KMC equipment

- Delivering Kangaroo Mother Care related care & counselling

- Equip our beneficiaries with the proper techniques for Skin to Skin contact and Breastfeeding.

- Provide respectful care to beneficiaries

- Regularly use IEC materials such as flipbooks, videos and posters to further enable our beneficiaries in providing KMC to their children.

- Regularly observing and reporting data on KMC practices of our beneficiaries.

- Regular monitoring and reporting of the baby’s medical information for timely referral and care

- Performing data entry and data management tasks on Dimagi’s mobile application and on physical registers.

- Active participation in clinical handover processes in the beginning and at the end of your shift.

- Facilitating discharge related processes and due diligence

- Conducting regular follow up calls with beneficiaries

- Problem solving and firefighting as needed by the beneficiaries

- Reporting all experiences, issues, concerns, suggestions etc to your reporting manager.

- Building healthy relationships with fellow hospital and KMC staff

- Actively participating in meetings as and when required.

- Actively working on performance feedback and sharing feedback on programmatic development & evolution.


Who Should Apply?


We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing the highest quality of care to new mothers in hospital set ups, someone who enjoys talking to women and enabling them to care for their newborns to the best of their abilities.

- ANM a recognized institute and registered with a competent authority

- At least 1-2 years experience working in clinical setting

- Excellent knowledge on facility based newborn care and referral processes

- Experience of working in a hospital setting and providing counselling to patients

- Ability to communicate information in a clear, respectful, and timely manner

- Have self initiative and ability to plan and execute their work independently

- Willingness to learn and generate new ideas


Requirements


You have functional oral and written Hindi and English skills

You are personable and a team player.

You are agile, able to work flexibly and enjoy working in a startup environment where the needs are likely to change week to week.
