Lake Gardens Women and Children Development Centre (hereinafter referred as LGWCDC) Kolkata is a nonprofit organization. It is registered under West Bengal Society’s Registration Act 1960 with Registration No. S/73111 of 1992-93 and under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 2010, with FCRA No 147120533 (FCRA renewed in 2016). LGWCDC also has provisional exemption under 80G and 12A IT Act 1961. LGWCDC is working with an integrated holistic developmental approach wherein joyful learning, remedial education, opportunities for mainstreaming, health care, vocational skills training for income generation are provided to the children and women residing in the targeted slums. The main vision of the organization is to address and combat related problems of malnutrition, ignorance and poor health status including the education of the children. Moreover, the organization emphasizes on awareness programs on health, nutrition and physical and mental growth and development of the children. The major focus of the organization is securing rights to women and children through empowerment of women by forming SHGs, making community people aware regarding their basic rights, with emphasis on women’s rights, child rights, health & hygiene issues, education and self-reliance. Currently the work of the Organization is concentrated in specific slum pockets situated in Wards 81, 93 & 94 and 107 under Kolkata Municipal Corporation , Wards 8,10,11 & 16 under Maheshtala Municipality, Since 2022, LGWCDC is also working in neighbouring states of Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on Climate literacy and environmental Protection.
Community Mobilizer will be responsible for engaging, organizing, and empowering community members to take action on social, health, or environmental issues.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Engagement:
- Conduct baseline survey
Build relationships with community leaders, groups, and individuals
- Identify and understand community needs, concerns, and assets
- Facilitate community meetings, events, and activities
2. Mobilization and Organization:
- sensitising and assisting community members to access services and entitlements,
- mobilization of Community to participate in interface meetings,
- Assisting community in accessing identity documents and social security schemes,
- Linking 0-5 yrs children with ICDS Centres,
- Tracking of children out of schools and at risk of child labour, early marriage or trafficking,
- Mainstreaming of children to formal schools,
- supporting health camps and special day observations
- Train community volunteers and leaders
- Develop and implement community mobilization plans
- Coordinate community-based initiatives and projects
3. Education and Awareness:
- Provide education and information on specific issues or topics
- Raise awareness about community resources and services
- Promote behavior change and social norms shift
4. Partnership Building:
- Collaborate with local organizations, agencies, and stakeholders specially with local Club leaders, Councillors, School Teachers., Anganwadi Workers, IPP8 workers, other NGO Staff,etc
- Develop and maintain partnerships to leverage resources and expertise
- Facilitate networking and coalition building
5. Networking and Policy Change:
- Support community-led networking efforts
- Identify and address policy barriers and opportunities
- Facilitate community engagement in policy-making processes
6. Capacity Building:
- Provide training and capacity-building programs for community members
- Enhance community leadership and skills development
- Foster community empowerment and self-sufficiency
7. Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Track community mobilization progress and outcomes
- Evaluate program effectiveness and impact
- Report findings and recommendations to Project Coordinator
Skills and Qualifications:
- Higher Secondary /Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Social Work, or related field
- 2-3 years of experience in community mobilization or organizing
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
- Ability to work in diverse community settings and build trust with community members
- Strong problem-solving, leadership, and advocacy skills
- willing to travel and work extensively in the field
