Job Description

Society for Action in Disability and Health Awareness (SADHANA) is an organization working towards the empowerment and inclusion of marginalised people including persons with disabilities. SADHANA is working in Mayurbhanj for more than last 25 years, addressing a wide range of health, education, livelihood, and disability issues in its project area and beyond. It aims is to ensure that people with disabilities and other marginalised persons in the villages are included in family and village life to the optimum level possible. It works in the areas of Inclusive Education, Health, Nutrition, Economic Inclusion, Adaptation and Rehabilitation interventions to ensure equal opportunities and rights for all.

SADHANA is looking for passionate Community Health Workers who are interested to work with persons with seizure disorders, mental illness, and multiple disability in rural/tribal villages, their families, and communities for enabling and empowering them to lead a dignified and fulfilling life.

Position: Community Health Worker (CHW)

Place of Posting: Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Odisha

Report to: The CBR Programme In-charge


Key role and responsibilities: The Community Health Worker at SADHANA are vital to our Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Programme, providing crucial support for individuals with mental illness, seizure disorders, and multiple disability. They have to assist parents and individuals in managing their medication and facilitate consultations with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals. By maintaining accurate patient records, they have to ensure meticulous tracking of treatments and progress. CHW has to educate and support families and caregivers on managing mental health and seizure disorders, and collaborate with healthcare providers and organizations to ensure comprehensive care of individuals with seizure disorder, mental illness and multiple disability.


Qualifications and Skills Required:

# ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) or GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) certification.

# Experience in community health, mental health, or a related field will be given preference.

# Have interest in understanding of mental health and seizure disorders.

# Good communication and interpersonal skills.

# Have the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in challenging environments.

# Have the ability to understand prescriptions and keep medical records/related data

# Ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals and community organizations.

# Compassionate and empathetic attitude for poor people and willingness to help them.

# Strong organizational and time management skills.

# Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

# Willingness to travel within the community and to remote areas as needed.

# Proficiency in Odia and Hindi is preferred.

# Basic knowledge of English is an advantage.


Salary: Rs. 15,000 to 17,000/- per month, (negotiable depending on experience and competencies)
