Job Description

The Lab Technician in a Clinical Trial Unit is responsible for performing laboratory procedures and tests. This role involves processing and analyzing biological samples, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of lab results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to regulatory and safety standards. The Lab Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of laboratory data, which is essential for the success of clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sample Collection and Processing:

o Collect, label, and process biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue) from clinical trial participants.

o Prepare samples for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage under appropriate conditions.

o Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.

2. Laboratory Testing and Analysis:

o Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests according to trial protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

o Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

o Ensure accurate and timely analysis of samples, and report results to the clinical trial team.

3. Regulatory Compliance:

o Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and safety standards, including Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

o Prepare and maintain documentation required for regulatory inspections and audits.

o Assist in the development and review of laboratory SOPs and protocols.

4. Equipment Maintenance:

o Perform regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.

o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory instruments.

o Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and that maintenance logs are up to date.

5. Inventory Management:

o Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory, including reagents, supplies, and equipment.

o Order and stock laboratory supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted workflow.

o Ensure proper storage and labeling of all reagents and materials.

6. Collaboration:

o Work closely with the clinical trial team, including investigators, nurses, and coordinators, to ensure smooth workflow and timely processing of samples.
