PALCARE - THE JIMMY S BILIMORIA FOUNDATION - a Mumbai based NGO, (www.palcareindia.com) is looking for suitable candidates for the post of Full-Time Doctor. PALCARE looks after patients with serious, life limiting conditions, particularly cancer patients, to relieve their pain and manage their symptoms, ensuring that they have quality of life and dignity in death.

Job Description

You will be the palliative care physician of a medical palliative care zonal team comprising you, as the doctor, two nurses and one psycho-social counsellor. You will visit patients at their homes. There, you will provide compassionate medical care so as to relieve their pain and manage their symptoms. You will be assigned a zone close to your home to minimize travel time to patients. This is a 9:30 am to 5:30 p.m. job – leaving your evenings free.

Qualification

At least a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from an Indian institution recognized by the Medical Council of India.

Experience

Two or more years of experience, preferably in a hospital.

Remuneration

Your salary will be generous and commensurate with your years of experience. The position is in Mumbai. Accommodation is not provided and applicants must make their own arrangements.

Personal Characteristics

• You must have good medical knowledge and skills

• Be willing to learn the discipline of palliative care medicine and be prepared to undergo specialised training and regular refresher courses thereon.

• You must show compassion and personalised care to patients and their families

• You must have effective communication skills, preferably in English, Hindi / Marathi.

• You must be dedicated and committed to the job and to palliative care

• You must be willing to make a commitment to the organization for a minimum of 2 years.

While there are palliative care facilities across the country, their numbers are grossly inadequate to cater to the vast number of patients in need of such care, with the exception of Kerala, where too it is in the most part a community run service. In Mumbai, apart from Tata Memorial Centre and a handful of other institutes that have recently come into existence, palliative care is almost unheard of.
