Field Internship – Forest Owlet Project

About Project

WCs-India’s Forest Owlet Project focuses on understanding the population status, distribution and breeding biology of the forest owlet in the Dangs district and adjoining regions of Gujarat that form a part of the northern Western Ghats. The landscape lacks long-term ecological studies and has seen several local extinctions due to hunting and habitat loss. The project focuses enhancing our understanding of the status of the forest owlet in the landscape through applied research, outreach and capacity development.

Location: south Gujarat region, with primary focus on the Dangs district.

Expected start date: 1st November 2024

Duration: full-time 6 months (extendable)

No.of Internships: Two

Remuneration: Stipend as per Project conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in field surveys to locate and monitor Forest Owlet.

- Collect and record data on behaviour, habitat, and environmental conditions.

- Help with nest site monitoring and protection efforts.

- Participate in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about the Forest Owlet and its habitat.


Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Zoology/Ecology/Bioscience/applied fields.

- Commitment for 6 months.

- Ability to work in remote and challenging outdoor environments with valid driving license, able to drive a bike on rough village and forest roads.

- Strong observation and data collection skills; prior experience in field research is a plus.

- Knowledge of Gujarati (spoken and written) is essential

- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and ability to work independently when required.

- Good working knowledge of MS Office is essential.
