The Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy (IWWAGE) at IFMR LEAD aims to support solutions and transformative policies using evidence and research to ensure inclusive and equitable access to employment markets, financial services, economic resources, and social protection for women. Women form a majority among economically disadvantaged group and remain disproportionally affected by poverty, discrimination and exploitation as compared to men. Research suggests that investing in women’s economic empowerment has important linkages with gender equity, poverty alleviation and inclusive growth. Several efforts have been devoted to studying the issue of women’s economic empowerment, however, evidence remains fragmented and work done in silos. IWWAGE aims to work towards adding to the existing efforts.
