Job Description

The Content Specialist & Writer is a key member of the team, supporting our broader communications, development, and conservation work by developing content, managing projects, and supporting visual communications. This position is a dynamic role that will support multiple priority projects, as well as broader organizational communications efforts. The Content Specialist & Writer will engage with a wide range of team members, partners, and contractors to develop high-quality, well-written content regarding our conservation work.  We are looking for someone who has some experience of proposal writing and knows how to review conservation related proposals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This role writes and edits a variety of communication materials that educate and inform the public and further our fundraising efforts.  S/he provides editorial advice and expertise, oversees team/cross-departmental communication efforts, and may work with outside writers and related vendors.  His/her written products may include newsletters, magazines, annual reports, website articles/stories, executive-level speeches, media pieces, funding proposals and reports, fact sheets, and presentations. In addition to developing this content, the Content Specialist & Writer will directly manage projects and processes, ensuring that timelines are met, and products are accurate and of the highest-quality.  The person should be well versed in how to write and review proposals as well as to ensure they send out the right message in tune with TNC’s philosophy.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

1. Manages and implements a wide range    of communications-related projects.

2. Writes and creates key communications assets, including both copy and visual communications pieces.

3. Accountable for meeting assigned project goals, timelines, and objectives.

4. May serve as team lead on assigned communication and/or initiatives.

5. Does not supervise staff but will coordinate the work of peers.

6. Works independently without requiring detailed management review of general work.

7. Supports the implementation of communications strategy and plan, may take ownership of communications components or projects.

8. May organize events and/or campaigns in support of work.

9. Supports internal communications, including developing assets and promoting the work of the India program.

10. Readiness to Travel frequently and on short notice to project sites, working long hours as needed.

11. Readiness to work from office.

12. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.

Eligibility Criteria

• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field and a minimum of 5 years related experience or equivalent combination. • Experience writing or editing one or more of the following: newsletter, magazine, annual report, web-site articles/stories, donor profiles, presidential acknowledgment letters, campaign brochures, funding proposals, fact sheets, presentations, or equivalent. • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects. • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships. • Strong verbal and written communication English skills. • Excellent writing and proofreading skills. • Has prior experience of proposal writing and review.

Desired Candidate Profile

Graduation - Graduate-Other

1. Multi-lingual skills appreciated.

2. Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.

3. Some basic experience of multi media communications such as videos and brochures.

4. Experience implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies and proposal writing

5. Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices. 

6. Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in communications.

7. Experience leading or managing projects and budgets.

8. Values-driven person with desire to make a meaningful difference and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.

9. Media relations experience.

10. Experience working in a large, dispersed organization working across different countries, cultures and time zones, and managing communication relationship with headquarters.
