Job Description

This position is responsible to provide counselling and ensure psycho social support to all the children who access open shelter and also provide counselling services to their families. The position will be presently based at CHD and in future at Open Shelter. The position will ensure Individual sessions, Group sessions, maintain Individual child care plans are developed and appropriately filed. Additionally, this position requires travel to provide counselling services to the children arrived at CHD and children placed in govt home. 

Reporting to: Project Manager

Key responsibilities:

• Responsible to provide counselling and ensure psycho social support to all the children who access open shelter.

• The counsellor shall have a minimum of 2 sessions with the child once he/she has been admitted in the reception unit of the CCI. More sessions shall be conducted if required.

• Sessions shall be to understand as much as possible about the child, his or her situation, background, circumstances and needs, in order to make recommendations which will impact further decision making for the child, reports to the CWC and the preparation of the ICP.

• The counsellor should have planned, goal-oriented sessions with each child once in every week.

• The counsellor should provide inputs on each child being counselled during the monthly Management Committee meeting.

• The counsellor shall inform the matter to the Superintendent/ Person-in-charge and Management Committee for an appropriate decision to be taken when he/she is of the view that: a. the objectives of counselling sessions have been achieved. b. or that the counselling sessions need to be extended. c. or that the child is in need of referral to a specialized service.

• Ensure intensive therapeutic engagement with children to understand the situation of the child and provide an assurance of support.

• Understanding vulnerabilities of children and families through a systematic assessment process using Vulnerability Assessment Tool.

• Identify need for mental health support, de-addiction services, accordingly arrange specialised support for the child living in open shelter and long care homes.

• Identify high risk behaviours and immediately escalate the issue to home superintend and doctors.

• Engage with families individually and in groups to support children post restoration.

• Report the any child abuse issue, concern or doubt to the concerned person as per the organisational CSP/CPP reporting procedures.

• Any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Preferably graduate in psychology, or diploma in counselling or any graduate with at least 1 years of working experience in counselling of children 2. Knowledge of child counselling and developmental psychology 3. Knowledge of child protection issues and legislations would be an added advantage. • Excellent communication skills in Hindi (Both written and Verbal). Functional knowledge of English is preferable. • Computer Savvy and can manage MIS
