SignAble is a video+voice mobile app that helps deaf users communicate with anyone, anytime, anywhere with the help of sign language interpreters - commonly known as Video Relay Service (VRS). India has over 18 million deaf persons, 40% of who use the Indian Sign Language (ISL). The ambition of SignAble is to connect with this community at scale and build the VRS service to help further deaf people’s integration into mainstream life and employment.
SignAble is looking for a COO to set up and build the business into a commercially profitable enterprise with at least 1 million users over 5 years, working with the founders and a diverse team. The main responsibilities of the COO will be:
A. Strategy and Development
Build a realistic operational and financial plan for the future based on a Proof of Concept that generates technical, client, revenue, pricing, market and user data.
Support the founders in raising sufficient investment to deliver quality service and scale up in India and beyond.
Ensure that the deaf community is included and feel ownership, participation and goodwill towards the VRS solution provided by SignAble. Engage with the deaf community via the Deaf Outreach Officer at all levels.
Recruit and induct key personnel across operations, technology, sales, etc.
Set up physical and virtual call centres for interpreters as appropriate and ensure
that quality, ethical, interpretation, user experience standards are set and adhered to. Drive recruitment, training, management and service quality of at least 200 Sign Language interpreters.
Drive product development with a mix of in-house and agency talent.
Set up a sales and servicing team for corporate, institutional and government clients.
Manage all aspects of the company, lead the team, and be the main problem solver.
C. Marketing, Branding and Customer acquisition
Represent and help build the SignAble brand as an inclusive and effective commercial service provided at a pricing structure appropriate to developing countries in local, national, and international fora.
Prepare a metrics-driven marketing plan to create demand among deaf users, drive referrals and sign up users.

11. Drive outreach activities to attract enterprise, government, healthcare and other institutional customers.
12. Manage Digital Marketing, Social Media and PR with a mix of in-house and agency talent.
D. Profitability and Impact
Make SignAble the go-to communications solution for deaf sign language users in that it delivers Sign Language interpretation effectively, becomes an important part of a deaf person’s daily life, and is engaging to them, their families, colleagues and others.
Build a robust business model that returns an adequate profit to sustain its usage for poor users and turn the business into a company with a stable and growing market.
The ideal candidate has demonstrable experience in managing a company or a large team and a real commitment to working on innovation in the disability space. He/she has been a CXO/co-founder/manager and has experience in taking an IT startup to scale.
The candidate should have at least one of the following technical skills or experience:
● Specifying, testing, adapting, managing the deployment of a B2C IT solution
● Managing call centre operations for client servicing
