Poverty and Illiteracy are twin curses. When hunger, clothing, shelter, health are issues that require immediate attention; books are mere raddi (waste) and are not a priority. Dr. Manjula Pooja Shroff, Chairperson – Calorx Foundation, founded “Visamo Kids Foundation”(VKF) in 2002 to create an environment where kids from underprivileged backgrounds can “dare to dream”, “fulfill aspirations” alongside receiving basic facilities viz. shelter; food; clothing & education in order to be empowered and propel their desired future. Thus, on one hand it directed Visamo to liaise with NGOs operating at grass root levels across the State and on the other, with the premium English medium schools to partner with us to nurture the kids from Class I to XII. The response was encouraging to offer free education including transport, uniform even educational tour & picnic at no cost at all to parents. Physical, Parental, Developmental, Cultural, Societal & Educational facilities are also taken care of.
Empowering lives through access to quality education in a safe environment. Screening for Admission- In collaboration with grassroots’ NGOs, every year, we conduct screening tests for children from economically/socially disadvantaged communities. Visamo Camp: These shortlisted children attend a ten day- camp at the Visamo Kids- the shelter home, wherein a series of mental and physical tests are conducted. Interview of parents: The camp culminates in an interview process where the parents are met by the managing trustee and a panel of selection board members, to complete the process of admission Admission in school: The admission to the selected kids is done in the most prominent schools like DPS, Anand Niketan, Zydus, St. Kabir, Zebar. Academic Excellence: The kids are provided with supplementary teaching after getting home (VKF) after returning from school. Co-Curricular-For all-round development, life skill training, counseling, grooming, career counselling sessions are organized.
