Summary

Pratham is the largest non governmental organization working to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of India. Pratham was established in 1994 in the slums of Mumbai city. Since then the organization has grown to 21 states and 43 cities. Operations in Gujarat started in Vadodara in 1999 to mainstream out of school children and their subsequent retention support. Today Pratham Ahmedabad is running both the Direct Programs as well as the Read India campaign across the state. Pratham Ahmedabad has set up Democratic Learning Centres DLCs in slums aimed at devising a low cost, replicable models of child centred learning. Read India is being implemented in 10 districts in partnership with the State Government.
