Lutheran World Service India (LWSI) was initiated as a Country Program of Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service (LWF/DWS) Geneva in 1974 to extend relief support to the refugees of the Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971 in collaboration with the Swedish Mission, as the Cooch Behar Refugee Service.
