Summary

Muktangan was founded in 2003 as an innovative educational model of integrated school (KG to Std. 10) and teacher education in Mumbai to address the shortcomings in the mainstream education system in the country. Its community-based, inclusive, child-centered methodology has evolved over 20 years into a total systems model now known as the Muktangan Educational Resource Center (MERC). Through these 7 English-medium Municipal schools, set up and run by Muktangan, all located in Worli / Parel in Mumbai, it offers child-friendly education to over 4000 children from underserved communities and has trained 1000+ community members as teachers of which 683 teachers have been employed by us as Teachers and Leaders. Through its outreach programs over the years in partnerships with MCGM, State Government, and NGO we impact over 75000 children, 5000+ teachers, and 1800+ alumni – ‘a growing learning community.
