Baroda Citizens Council began its journey in 1966 as an advisory body to the Baroda Urban Community Development Project, established by the American Friends Services Committee (Quakers group), which was registered in 1966 under the Societies Act in a tripartite partnership with the Baroda Municipal Corporation, the M.S. University of Baroda and the Federation of Gujarat Industries. Baroda Citizens Council was initially an advisory organization which was primarily meant to support and undertake self-help activities in slum where soon urban community development projects took place that were tailor-made for each area and addressed the local needs. Gradually, over the years the programs were streamlined so that they led to sustainable development and empowerment of communities.
