Summary

We started our journey in early 80s; myself as a Research Scholar in Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. I recall that that the project was “PENSIONERS IN CALCUTTA- A GERONTOLOGICAL STUDY. Subsequently, I was trained in Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology, JAPAN. Came back,1983 to start CALCUTTA METROPOLITAN INSTITUTE OF GERONTOLOGY CMIG with Research & Publication of Indian Journal of Gerontology “AGEING & SOCIETY”. In the passage of time, more than two and half decades, CMIG is still a very small Institution. But Identified as Centre of Excellence in Gerontological Studies. We are conducting all training courses under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. Post Graduate Course on GERONTOLOGY & AGE CARE MANAGEMENT, Recognized by Calcutta University. We have added many SERVICE domains like DAY CARE CENTRES, MOBILE MEDICARE UNITS for the underprivileged elderly. Our strength is Research.
