Padala Ramaiah, born on 20th April 1960 in Tsundur, Guntur Dist., was instilled with the values of "SEVA" (service) from a young age by his parents. He drew inspiration from Father Michael Anthony Windey SJ, a Belgian Jesuit with a strong humanitarian spirit. Over the course of 25 years, he closely worked with the aim of welfare for all, prioritizing the needs of the most underprivileged and striving to bring them to a level of dignity and self-sufficiency. His philosophy was deeply influenced by the teachings of Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave, and the principles of Total Revolution advocated by Jayaprakash Narayan. Motivated by these ideals, he conceptualized a non-governmental and non-profit organization named "Village Development Society" or VDS. On 14th March 1990, VDS was officially registered with a vision to uplift villages that lacked basic amenities and were compelled to migrate in search of better living conditions.
