Angikar is a Bengali word which means to have a deep commitment towards certain ideology or goal. Digambarpur Angikar , an organisation having its root in the deltaic Sundarbans of West Bengal for over four decades now, has been harnessing its pledge towards a right based approach ever since its initiation. Initially borne out of a public initiative in a remote island, in the block of Patharpratima in South 24 district of West Bengal in 1978, the organization later got formally recognized and registered as a nonprofit, non-governmental organization in the year 1979.
