Summary

Tamana, a non-profit voluntary organisation registered in March 1984, was created solely for the purpose of providing rehabilitative services for the mentally challenged, multiply disabled and those on the autism spectrum. Tamana was born out of the living faith and optimism of Dr. Shayama Chona (Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Awardee), mother of Tamana Chona, who was born spastic with cerebral palsy. For its contribution in the field of disabilities, Tamana was accredited & granted a Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2005. Tamana has three centres in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. Its first centre 'Tamana Special Education Centre' was inaugurated by the late Lady Diana, Princess of Wales in 1992, and is known as the 'Tamana Special Education Centre'. It was set up to provide rehabilitative services to differently abled children between the age group 5-18 Yrs.
