Job Description

Abhigyan Disha is a non-profitable, community-based NGO, registered under Society Registration Act of 1860 and FCRA, 12A and 80G of Income tax. With the vision of “Prosperous nation with harmonious society ‘Abhigyan Disha’ was established in 1992 and registered in 1995 in the state of Bihar. Abhigyan Disha has active presence in more than hundred villages in Madhubani, Bihar. We have been catalytic in changing and bringing the positive changes in the life of more than thousand people with our efforts through, sustainable livelihood, community-based disaster risk reduction, access to quality education, promoting girl’s education, etc, With the aim of further reaching to more and more people and empowering the community, Abhigyan Disha is going to work in 10 districts of Bihar especially with marginalized and vulnerable community. The objective of this programme is to empowering the community, developing and strengthening their institutions, promoting sustainable livelihood practices, gender mainstreaming and establishing disaster risk reduction practices.


At present Abhigyan Disha is looking for the position of Programme Associates – 4 for its project office at Patna, Bihar however the job responsibility will require extensive travel to programme areas in remote locations spread across 10-15 districts in the state.


Roles and responsibilities:

• Planning and budgeting of the programme as per the project requirements.

• Effective execution of plans/ programmes, maintain database and handholding support to social mobilisers/volunteers.

• Periodic monitoring & review of programmes and budget/expenditures.

• Mobilizing and strengthening the community groups.

• Establishing systems and processes at community groups for planning, execution, record maintenance and resource mobilization.

• Facilitating the capacity building programmes for the community groups and their representatives.

• Establishing linkages with government departments and other institutions/stake holders on the issues of the poor and marginalized community.

• Facilitating campaigns/dialogues on the issues of rights and entitlements of these community groups.

• Undertake research, documentation and reporting of the programme as and when required.

• Undertake periodical visit to the field area to support the program activities and strengthen Volunteers/community representatives/community groups.

• Periodically evaluate the programme, assess its outcome for the impact and effectiveness of the project.

• Any other duties as assigned by Senior Programme Coordinator.


Qualification: Post graduate/Master’s degree in Social work/Rural Development from reputed institute.


Experience: Minimum 4-5 years of experience in social development sector particularly with dalit groups on the issues of community mobilization and group management, livelihood and food security, gender, local self-governance, disaster risk reduction. Excellent communication and documentation skills in English as well as Hindi, having proficiency in MS word, MS excel, PowerPoint will be added advantage.


Salary: CTC will be approx. 41,000/- per month however it will be commensurate with the qualifications, skills and work experience. Field travel cost will be reimbursed as per the organizational guide line and this will be exclusive of the salary. Other social security benefits like provident fund etc. will be applicable as per government guideline.


Note: The job will require extensive travel across the state.

Our interventions primarily facilitate the process of strengthening these village based institutions and establishing linkage with inline government departments for its sustainability. Abhigyan Disha with support from various donor agencies is working towards helping children of primary school in achieving acceptable competency level (3R’s) in school with motivating teachers for it. We are also working towards achieving our objective of addressing issues of in-school processes, teaching learning processes and intend to impact on the overall learning environment where in children demonstrate measurable improvements in learning.
